Troubleshooting
A draft order wasn’t created
Creating the Shopify draft order failed, or the order returned to review at the last step.
Updated
Draft creation is the only step that writes to Shopify, so its failures are usually Shopify telling you something.
Read the message
The failure is shown on the review screen with Shopify’s own wording rather than a generic error, because the wording is the diagnosis. “No delivery options are available for this address” and “Shopify delivery options could not be reached” are different problems with different fixes.
The order returned to review
Not a failure so much as a safety check. Between resolving an order and creating the draft, something in your store changed — a variant archived, a delivery rate changed, payment terms altered.
Rather than creating a draft on stale information, the affected decision is reopened. Make it again and continue. Your other decisions are kept.
Shopify could not be reached
A connectivity problem. Try again shortly and check the Shopify status page.
Shopify refused the order
The message comes from Shopify. Common causes:
- The company location is not set up for what the order needs — no catalogue, or a configuration the draft depends on.
- A variant is no longer purchasable.
- The app lacks a permission the order requires. This one needs the app’s access updating rather than anything you can change on the order.
The action is unavailable
Three things gate it, and it is usually the second or third:
- Open blockers. The readiness summary at the top counts them, and each names the decision it wants.
- Warnings you have not acknowledged. They appear once the blockers are gone, under a heading asking you to review them before final review.
- Price differences you have not acknowledged, which are asked line by line.
Inventory warnings never gate it.
Pricing worked but creation failed
The one action does two things: it asks Shopify to price the order, then to store a draft. The first can succeed and the second fail — usually because creation needs a permission that pricing does not.
Where that happens, the error is Shopify’s own and names what it refused. That message is the thing to report.
It looks like it failed but did not
Check Shopify before retrying. If a draft was created and the response was lost, the order shows its created state with a link to the draft — and it will not create a second one. There is no way to produce two drafts from one purchase order.
