Configure inbound email

Find your store's intake address in Settings, copy it, and give it to buyers or forward to it.

Updated

Inbound email needs almost no configuration. The address exists as soon as your store does; what you decide is who uses it and how.

Find the address

Go to Settings. The Email section shows your store’s intake address with a copy button beside it.

Copying puts it on your clipboard and confirms briefly. Take care transcribing it by hand — the address is generated for your store and is not guessable, so a typo means orders go nowhere rather than to the wrong place.

Decide how buyers reach it

Two options, and most stores use the second:

  • Give the address to buyers directly. Simple, but it means asking every buyer to change what they have saved.
  • Forward your own address to it. Buyers keep using orders@yourcompany.com and your mail provider passes messages through. See Use your own email address with forwarding.

Restrict who can send

By default anyone reaching the address creates orders. If the address is going to be known outside your organisation, consider turning on approved senders — see Configure approved email senders.

Test it

Send a real purchase order from an outside address and confirm it appears in Orders within a few seconds. Do this before telling buyers to switch, and again after changing any forwarding rule.

If there is no address

If Settings says inbound email has not been configured by your administrator, the deployment does not have inbound mail set up. Nothing on this screen will change that; it needs configuring on the server side. Uploading and describing orders work regardless.

What you cannot configure here

  • The address itself. It is generated for your store and cannot be chosen or changed from this screen.
  • Your own domain. PO Autopilot does not receive mail at your domain. Forwarding is how you keep your own address.
  • Per-buyer routing. Every order arriving at the address belongs to this store; there is no way to route different senders differently.
