Configure matching identifiers

PO Autopilot already matches against the standard Shopify data: product SKUs and barcodes for line items, and buyer names and addresses for companies. If your store keeps other identifying codes in Shopify metafields — manufacturer part numbers, legacy ERP references, distributor codes, customer account numbers — you can tell PO Autopilot to use those too.

Add an identifier

1. Go to Settings and find Matching identifiers.
2. Under Additional metafield identifiers, choose what the metafield is owned by: Variant, Product, Company, Company location, or Customer.
3. Enter the namespace — the first part of the metafield definition, such as custom or b2b.
4. Enter the key — the metafield name, such as manufacturer_part_number.
5. Select Add identifier.

It appears under Configured metafields, and matching starts using it on the next order that arrives.

Which owner you choose decides what the identifier can match. Variant and Product identifiers are used on line items. Company, Company location and Customer identifiers are used to work out which buyer an order is from.

Matches must be exact

Metafield values are matched exactly, in the same way as SKU and barcode. There is no fuzzy matching, no partial match and no case-insensitive fallback.

Supported text and number metafields can be used. If the same value appears on more than one Shopify record, PO Autopilot will not match it automatically — an ambiguous identifier is not an identifier, and guessing between two products is worse than asking you.

What it does not do

Adding an identifier does not re-match orders already waiting in review. It applies to orders processed after the change. If you want an order already in review to pick the metafield up, delete it and send it again.

Remove one

Select Remove on its row under Configured metafields. Matching stops using it immediately. Nothing you have already resolved changes, and any mappings you saved stay where they are.
